Here's a little more detailed explanation on my magical system:

Time magia involves such spells as Haste, Slow, and spells of that nature, and psychic power

Darkness magia involves shadow/night based attacks, and status inducing effects

Water magia involves water based attacks and buffs

Light magia involves light based attacks and lighting things

Earth magia involves earth based attacks (bothe the rock and crystal side of earth and the plant side of earth)

Moon magia involves stealth spells

Fire magia involves fire based attacks

Wind magia involves wind based attacks

Holy magia involves healing and buffs such as Protect and Shell

Spirit magia involves buffs like "attack up", "defense up", and spells that manipulate magia itself (detecting it, analyzing it, and locking it)

Lightning magia involves lightning based attacks and buffs

Ice magia involves ice based attacks and buffs

For the time being, they are called Singers (so named because you usually use a musical instrument to cast something)

I can't quite figure out what you mean by "buff"? And I'd love some elaboration on what status-inducing effects are; I'm intrigued.

As for using song and music to cast spells, you may want to look at the Troubadour discipline in the role playing game Earth Dawn for ideas, though it's probably far below what you've already come up with. You can find it in the Player's Compendium.

Ok, so you're saying that there are different elemental types, but they are powered by the 12 gemstones (December is turquoise btw, you got that wrong :p), and the wizard people use music to use magic..... Either you've chanegd ideas, or you are yet to elaborate the entire structural dimensions of the magic balance etc.

I would recommend two series of books- The Gift (adn its following books) by Alison Croggen is about 'Bards' (although, as explained in the book, bards is simply the word of best fit in english), who use 'The Speeh' for their powers- it has a nice detailed idea of the Speech- or in yoru case Music- flowering in 'Bards/Singers', giving them their gifts.

The second is The Ropemaker and it's seond book- Angel Isle by Peter Dickinson (I've only read Angel isle, so for information on the stages of magic, that may be the best bet) - the books have this exceedingly complicated magic in them that is slowly explained as you go through- the idea of stages, and changing from one stage of water is like learnign to breathe air differently, etc.

I reckon that reading either -preferably both- of these books would help you greatly- if not by simply giving a different view

I've been reading as many "quest fantasies" as I can find to get ideas.

Tazanite is an acceptible December gem, as turquoise is rare now

Buffing is augmenting a person's strength, giving them a kind of shield, etc.

Status inducing effects are things like poison, sleep, and so on--what you would find in an RPG video game.
